NFHCA to Sponsor Intercollegiate Associate National Championship (download PR)
Inaugural Event is December 3 - 5, 2010 at UC Santa Barbara
Chandler, AZ - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is pleased to announce that the organization will be sponsoring a national championship for college-club
teams in 2010. The NFHCA Intercollegiate Associates National Championship opportunity is for
college-club teams organized under their institutional Recreation Departments or Student Life
Offices.
The inaugural National Championship for college-club teams will be hosted by UC Santa
Barbara December 3 – 5, 2010. This is the first avenue to a national championship for collegeclub
teams. Most other college sport clubs have had an avenue to a national championship for a
number of years. Until now, college-club field hockey teams did not.
This inaugural national championship event will consist of 8 teams from around the country
selected with a mix of conference automatic bids and at-large spots. Paul Ramsey, Field Hockey
Club Advisor at UCSB will serve as the Event Director. He currently runs two major events at
UCSB and will use the event planning infrastructure already in place. The UCSB facility is a
double field Field Turf complex cal
led Rob Field and the event will be fully supported by the
UCSB Department of Recreation. UCSB is in the Western Collegiate Field Hockey Conference and the assignor for that conference will assign the umpires. The WCFHC has ten member
teams. One other major conference identified at this time is the National Field Hockey League.
The NFHL has 63 member teams in 5 different regions. Information on other conferences, mainly in the Midwest and in the Rocky Mountains, is being researched.
The NFHCA is offering this national championship as a service to collegiate field hockey. As a
result of offering this championship and future college-club programs, the NFHCA is now in a
position to better serve an under-represented segment of the sport of field hockey.
The NFHCA
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a non-profit organization serving
field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of
the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the
sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional
contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA
is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting
the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs. For more information please go
